Rocks & Stones

Alcomden Stones, Hebden Bridge HX7 8RP, OS Grid Reference SD 97313 35737

An alternative name is Oakenden Stones. Not the easiest place to get to but this formation of stones is well worth a visit and the walk is an enjoyable one, although not the easiest.  20 minutes walk from Top Withens (Wuthering Heights).

The main stone in top of picture 1 is known as "The Druid Sacrifice Stone", a longway to go to chop someone's head off. From the stones you can see a 360 degrees of Yorkshire and Lancashire, including "The Yorkshire three peaks". Halfway up you pass the picturesque Ponden Kirk (means church in Gaelic), where  in the book "Wuthering Heights" Heathcliff jumped from?
