Waterfalls
Gordale Scar - Malham, Skipton BD23 4DL, OS Grid Reference

Situated in Yorkshires National Park, this impressive feature was formed on the Middle Craven Fault. The water that flows over the waterfalls at the heart of the ravine is rich in dissolved limestone. This has precipitated out onto the mossy rocks to create the soft tufa screen that is such a feature at Gordale. On a dry day the foot path can be accessed through the waterfall to the the Malham tour and Janet Foss. These falls were part of JMW Turners collection of Yorkshire paintings.

Gordale Scar is accessible from many different walking routes. One of which is the Malham circular route walk which takes in Malham Cove, Janet Foss waterfall and Malham Tarn. This is approximately a 5 mile hike showing lots of spectacular beauty spots. If Gordale Scar is the only goal then there is a country lane which is a dead end road, you can park here, it is only a 15 minute flat walk to the Scar. As an added extra there is a burger van selling refreshments, open most days.
